Jackson Hole Roasters Story

Hi, I’m Gray, the roaster behind the beans. Originally hailing from Alabama, I traded southern charm for the majestic landscapes of Jackson Hole in 2018. Here in the heart of Wyoming, surrounded by towering peaks and pristine wilderness, I found inspiration to craft exceptional coffee that mirrors the spirit of this extraordinary place. Our beans are roasted with precision and care, capturing the essence of the great outdoors.

As an avid lover of nature, you’ll often find me exploring the scenic wonders that Wyoming has to offer. Whether it’s running the trails, skiing down slopes, or simply soaking in the tranquility, the energy of the outdoors permeates in every batch of coffee

we roast.

Join us on this journey of flavor and adventure. From the warmth of our roaster to your cup, experience a taste of Wyoming in every sip. Cheers to the perfect blend of coffee and outdoor bliss!

Bringing transparency to the coffee business

Since I bought the company, we have been on a journey to build a coffee supply chain that prioritizes long term, mutually beneficial direct trade relationships. It is important to all of us at Jackson Hole Coffee Roasters that we know where our coffees come from. And we always seek to develop and maintain long term relationships with producers and supply partners. These connections ensure we more fully understand the origins of each coffee we buy and that we have firsthand experience with the impact our business is having on individual producers and the communities they come from. We leverage these long-standing relationships, always aspiring to offer coffees that are enjoyable to drink anytime of the day, using whatever brewing method you choose.

How do we cultivate these partnerships? We use a list of questions that we ask potential supplier partners to get a sense of if they will be willing to work with us on a transparent basis that supports and facilitates direct producer relationships that we hope lead to lasting partnerships. We are learning that these questions, and how potential suppliers respond to them, teach us a lot about how different actors in the coffee industry work. Part of this is recognizing that each person or organization that touches our coffees deserves (and needs!) to make some money from their contributions to ensure we can all keep our businesses running and support these supply chains long term. We are always refining our perceptions and expectations with the goal of cultivating empathy and striking mutually beneficial collaborations.

What does a good producer partner look like to Jackson Hole Coffee Roasters?

Well, the most important thing is a willingness to truly collaborate and get to know us. Through these meetings (we try to visit our core partners at least once every other year if not each year) and our conversations over cups of coffee or while walking around coffee fields, we talk about future plans, quality expectations, financial needs, and even about our personal lives. We don’t know how to be anything other than authentic in these interactions and we value all we learn from them.

Here is a bit of honest talk to keep things real. This is hard work. Sometimes the complexities (financial markets, global logistics, weather events, political and social unrest, etc.) of our world mean the coffees we’d hoped to buy aren’t available, can’t arrive on time, or might even be of lower quality than we’d hoped. In these cases, we look beyond our core relationships to find the next best coffees to offer so we avoid disruptions in availability. We don’t take these decisions lightly. We recognize that not buying from one of our producer partners at any given time can lead to hardship for them; we are always aware of this and work to ensure partner livelihoods are on solid footing when we get to reconnect with them on future purchases.
